Uploading your Web Site via FTP in Windows 95/98

These instructions will serve to help you upload your web site our servers via FTP. Remember there is a 5(five) Megabyte limit, however for most sites that is more than sufficient.

ONCE YOU HAVE YOUR SITE READY TO UPLOAD, CALL US AT 432.268.8800 SO WE CAN SET UP YOUR WEB SPACE.

If you have already installed WS_FTP LE on your computer, please skip to Part B.

PART A - Downloading an FTP client

Click HERE to download WS_FTP LE.
Click Run from this location, and click OK
When the download is complete, it should open the installer, and go to the next step. If not, click HERE and click save to disk, and under file name type C:\WS_FTPLE.EXE. Once the transfer is complete, click on "Start | Run..." and type in C:\WS_FTPLE.EXE.
Check Install WS_FTP LE and click Continue.
Click the appropriate selection, and click Next. Check the options that are appropriate, and click Next. Remember, this software is not shareware, and the license is only granted for personal home use only. If you need to upload this for work or a similar item, you will have to either select 'Try It' or purchase the software.
Read the License Agreement, and if you agree click Accept.
On Destination Directory, enter the directory you wish to install the software, or just leave the default settings and click OK. Same goes for the next screen.
Enter your email address and press OK. (login_name@crcom.net)
Under Program Manager Group, leave this setting to WS_FTP and click OK.
You should now get a message saying it was successfully installed. click OK

PART B - Uploading your Web Site

Click on 'Start | Programs | WS_FTP | WS_FTP LE'.
For Profile Name, type in Crestar.
For Host Name/Address, type in www.crcom.net.
For User ID, type in your login name (the same login name you use for internet access)
For Password, type in your password. Then check the "Save Pwd".
Click Apply, then Click OK.
Some connection messages will appear near the bottom, and on the RIGHT hand side you should see a directory with some files and a directory called public_html. Double Click on public_html. It will open into another blank directory. This is where you will upload your web page. All graphics, graphic directories, html, text, etc. will be transfered into this public_html directory.
On the LEFT side, which is files on your computer, is where you will select your files to upload. Locate your web site files, and select them. Click on the --> arrow, and it will upload them to our server.
Once the transfer(s) is/are complete, and if all goes well, you should be now able to open up your web page in your web browser. Type in your URL, http://www.crcom.net/~your login_name/, and you should now see your home page. Remember that in HTML your main page file must be name index.htm or index.html.
