Bike-a-thon a Big Success!
A big congratulations to all the BSARC hams who volunteered there
time to see that the MS Bike-a-thon went as well as it did. The
event will raise about $67,000 this year. The event began on
Saturday, the 19th in Midland, at the Claydesta building and the
course took the riders past Angel stadium, then south toward
Garden City, up to Stanton, then west and south of Big Spring,
coming up Rockhouse road and then onto the base and SWCID (or as
one of the maps referred to it The Institute of the
Dead. The second day took the riders from SWCID around FM
700 to the Gail Hwy past Lake JB Thomas and on into Snyder where
food , music and massages were available (ask Jerry.)
We did have a couple of club members that rode in the Bike-a-thon.. Jerry Lefty Farmer ( KK5EM ) and José Crash Test Gonzales (KB5GXW.) If you have not already heard how they acquired these nicknames, you will have to ask either Jerry, José or Ron Briley (KC5HUS), who rode a support vehicle for Jerry and José.
A big pat on the back goes to Allen Nichols (KC5NHV) for being fearless leader for the 2nd day of the event. Everything went very smoothly (except maybe for the crash site incident (Youll have to ask Allen.) The members that participated are: Allen Nichols (KC5NHV), JL Stevens (N5INC), Bucky Garner (KB5DRZ), Chris Churchwell (KC5DFZ), Marc Lutrelle (KD5AJE), Jim LeMarr (KE5RC), Irene LeMarr (N5JZM), Jerri Farmer (KC5LFZ), Bob Rumpff (KC5TWW), Terry Rumpff (KC5TWR), Ron Briley (KC5HUS), and José Gonzales (KB5GXW.)
Editors Note:
I would personally like to thank all of you who
helped with the event. I know from the riders point of view
how important yall are to the event. And special thanks to
Ron Briley (KC5HUS) for watching mine and Jerrys back and
picking me up and dusting me off on Saturday.
José Gonzales (KB5GXW.)

called a shipment,
but when you transport something by ship, its called cargo?

From the Prez....
Well, it's been another busy month for the BSARC! We just
caught our breath after Field Day, and it was time for our club
meeting. Then we rested almost a whole week until we helped out
with the MS 150 Cactus & Crude Bike Tour. If you don't know
how far 150 miles is just ask Jerry Farmer (KK5EM). He rode his
bike all 150 miles, and lived to tell about it! He was
accompanied for almost 30 of the miles by our own editor José
Gonzales(KB5GXW). They both did a great job, and did better than
any of the rest of us so give them a pat on the back! They also
both earned some new nick-names, but "Lefty" Farmer and
"Crash-Test" Gonzales made me promise not tell what
they are, you'll have to ask them! I drove the "support
truck" for Jerry and José on the first day of the tour from
Midland to Big Spring, if you've never observed an event like
that from an "up-close and personal" perspective you
should do it some time. I know that I felt like I had
accomplished something when our guys had achieved their goals,
and I think we all felt the pride Jerry felt both days when he
crossed that finish line. Good job! To all who helped out.
73's to all
